Mount Carmel, a conduit for success, has provided students with opportunities that have enabled the realisation of their own ambitions and aspirations. In doing so, this Christ-centred community has proven there to be a spirit of resilience, unity and understanding that has roamed the corridors of Mount Carmel for the past 40 years.
Throughout these 40 years, there has been one thing consistent - and that is the belief that every person has a lamp lit with them, every person has this spirit of resilience, and every person has the potential to achieve great things. However, it is whether we choose to hide this light, or choose to confine ourselves by our own comforts, that dictates whether our light can truly be seen. As the college captains of 2026, we, Beth and Emmanuel, seek to illuminate this necessity of reaching beyond the barriers that restrict our ability to excel beyond our own capabilities .
Our goals, successes, and aspirations this year are not products of our own efforts, but rather a combination of diverse skillsets, knowledge landscapes, and a shared determination that are found in the student representative council (SRC). Such strengths and areas of expertise are in alignment with what each member of the SRC has been allocated to oversee. We have Jake and Veronique for spirituality, Cassandra and Patrick for academics, Zoe and Darby for sport, Esaf and Lovinia for social justice and environmental life, and Jerry and Katiana for hospitality and cultural life. By utilising this structure, we are able to ensure that all areas of the school promote a desire for learning, a hunger for accomplishments, and a pursuit of excellence.
As the SRC team we aim to fulfill our roles, first through the recognition of the uniqueness of Mount Carmel, and this, we believe, is its spirit. Marking the milestone of the 40 year anniversary, we aim to rekindle our community, where our minds and hearts are fixated on the idea that we are called to greatness, reiterated by Mr Lo Cascio's theme to “aim for the summit." To truly gratify the perpetual uniqueness within the college, it is important to first note the rarity of the Marist and Carmelite charisms that have guided our community, establishing and driving the student body to pursue excellence.
In response to this pursuit, we would like to remark the Marist values of our college: presence, simplicity, family spirit, in the way of Mary and love of work, these of which distinguishes the excellency of a Mount Carmel student’s education, and, the Carmelite Charism of Contemplation through prayer, community and service, the attributions of one’s personal devotion to the college. Collectively, we are called to further accentuate these gifts we are offered for the selfless appreciation of our school and the teachers and peers which have formed it. Its deep culture, we recognise, was first embodied by its students, creating a community of exemplars, who exhibit Christ as the forefront of their opportunities, thus enabling great works of academics, sport and cultural engagement to execute across all 40 years of work.
On behalf of the SRC team for 2026 and our honour of leading the College in this great achievement of 40 years, we look forward to seeing the greatness which the student body will achieve, the very light which will remain the foundation of the next years. We encourage every student and teacher to pursue the spirit of Mount Carmel that will not dwindle in 2026, but rather, with passion, reignite as we walk this year in truth.
Pax Tecum.
